Around and About
The surrounding area has something to suit everyone – whatever their age. Local beaches, Pease Bay and Cove Harbour are only 1- 3 miles from the cottages and indoor pools are open all year round at Dunbar (8 miles) and Eyemouth (14 miles). Nature Reserves are located at St Abb’s Head near Coldingham, and in the John Muir Country Park by Dunbar.
Relaxed lowland walking is easily accessible but, for those who prefer more of a challenge, the Southern Upland way ends in Cockburnspath by way of the Lammermuir Hills which also offer a variety of other signposted routes.
Enjoy East Lothian’s distinct and varied coastline by following all or part of the John Muir Way, named after the leading American conservationist born in Dunbar in 1849, and part of the transnational North Sea Trail.
Riding, fishing, archery and off road driving are all also available within the local area and over 20 golf courses, from championship courses to 9 hole courses, are within a half hour’s drive.
Other local attractions include the Scottish Seabird Centre and Bass Rock, the Museum of Flight ( now with Concorde on display) and the John Muir birthplace as well as castles, churches and other historic sites.
Further afield, but still within an hour’s drive, visitors can enjoy all that Edinburgh has to offer, the Northumberland coast, including Lindisfarne and Alnwick Castle and Gardens, and the historic Border towns of Kelso, Jedburgh, Galashiels, Melrose and Selkirk.
